Home Improvement Guide For Berlin Township, NJ Home Owners
Questions to Ask before Remodeling Your Bathroom
If you are considering remodeling your bathroom, it is important to have a list of questions ready and available before you hire a contractor and/or sign on the dotted line. Don't worry if you are appearing particular or insistent. Any respected contractor would not only answer your inquires - he or she would respect and welcome them.
While shopping around for the items you wish to place in your new bathroom is important, shopping around for the right fit between contractor and customer is equally important.
Licensed and Insured
This is probably the one that has the most common sense, but you would be surprised how many people suffer unfortunate incidences by not hiring a contractor who is licensed and insured.
By making sure a contractor is licensed and insured you are protecting yourself on many levels. Having a license means that someone takes their craft seriously enough to obtain the necessary license to back them up, while having a contractor who is insured will give you peace of mind in case of an accident.
Years in Business
Don't be ashamed to ask about the contractor’s background. Inquire as to how long they have been in business, if it is a family-owned and operated business, and whether they can provide recommendations and referrals.
The more conversations you have, the more the truth will become apparent. If you have a contractor who is in too much of a rush to get started, then perhaps that contractor may be in too much of a rush to get the next job done. You want someone who will give you his or her undivided attention from the start.
Can you See Their Work
Ask if they have photographs of their work. Any contractor would and should be honored to show off their projects to you. If not, you may want to wonder why not. Also, ask them if they have a website where others can view the comments of other happy customers, pictures, pricing, and basic content on the jobs they do and their about us page.
Warranties and Guarantees
Make sure that you have enough conversation about the warranties and guarantees that come with your work scope. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and correspond by email. This way you have a paper trail of questions and answers so there is no misunderstanding on who said what, when.
Don't be afraid to ask for an extra six months warranty or guarantee as a first-time customer either.
When it comes to hiring a contractor, the more conversation the better.
